The idea of never painting and getting to 'spray down' the exterior is a dream, especially to an owner of a 1700's house that needs a new roof, all its 1800's 12 over 12 (Yest that's right 24 individual panes per window!)windows need reglazing and all the trim to be repainted and some replaced! The joy of just 'taking a house to it' would be fantastic. I found out that the homes are porcelain coated metal, like a sturdy old bathtub, but also somehow heat set so they never chip or fade. I can't even imagine what a dream it must be for upkeep!50sgalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09250940806307766624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-54240901153164867342010-09-02T13:00:37.662-07:002010-09-02T13:00:37.662-07:00there is a perfectly preserved lustron house on th...there is a perfectly preserved lustron house on the next street over from us. and it's in your favorite color of blue!!kellynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-41181180613029807712010-09-01T10:52:56.677-07:002010-09-01T10:52:56.677-07:00I had that exact same dollhouse as a child (the to...I had that exact same dollhouse as a child (the top one). They're extremely conservative and so far none of the kids have chosen to go to college. The oldest one is married and has a little girl. Number 19 was very premature, born this past December and has only been home for about three months now.

They do have a massive grocery bill! Jim Bob is the dad and he's made some very smart real estate investments and spent some time in state politics. They're completely self-sufficient and depend on no one and nothing to support their family. They buy used whenever possible and they have ZERO debt. There are a lot of things about them that I think you'd admire. They don't watch TV, very limited computer time, it's all about family.

They do not believe in birth control. (I don't either) All of the kids get plenty of attention. It's hard for some people to imagine, but it's true that the more children you have the more love there is to give them. When they built the new house the kids chose to just have one big room for the girls and one big room for the boys. They didn't want to be separated.

If you Google Duggar family you'll find all sorts of stuff about them. They do have a website. And all the kids names start with J!Rachel Leigh Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16004728242824462126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-55954664592621765172010-09-01T09:53:33.518-07:002010-09-01T09:53:33.518-07:00Those doll houses are really wonderful. I just found out that there is one in Hyannis ( a town here on Cape) down by the water and docks, I shall have to do an espionage day and get some photos to share. It really is amazing how your esthetic changes. I have a fantasy now that I will find one of these in some backwater Maine town on a lake in the middle of no where for next to nothing and there we shall have our little 'get away'. A gal can dream, can't she?
19 children! My goodness, that seems a bit excessive. I wonder how any of them get any attention. I can't imagine their food bills, they must make good money to feed and clothe all those darlings and I can't imagine the college bills!
I don't know what 'weeds' is, is it about the 50/60's?
Just the juxtaposition of the happy family waiting their turn to talk to 'grandma' smiling and laughing and then the sedentary sad expressions of the two girls together, yet not talking to one another and I am sure their little shopping bags are filled with ill made cheap clothes run up in China destined for the garbage in a few months. It just hurts my heart.50sgalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09250940806307766624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-33881367585745693362010-09-01T08:48:06.959-07:002010-09-01T08:48:06.959-07:00Thanks for the memories. However, it got sold in a rummage when I was an early teen and thought I was too 'cool' for it. I wish so bad I had kept it instead.

And yes, that second pic of the girls on their cell phones is so very sad.Lorie Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14406168168009117387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-85912913479711996882010-09-01T07:51:46.510-07:002010-09-01T07:51:46.510-07:00That song is actually used as the theme song to &q...That song is actually used as the theme song to "Weeds" A HBO show (I think) I always liked that song.

I looked for the location of steel houses, and none were near where I live now or use to, too bad, I would have loved to drive by and look.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10629792680417438724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6960946442922071473.post-34429126951782258512010-09-01T04:59:19.213-07:002010-09-01T04:59:19.213-07:00The Duggar family (from the show 19 Kids and Count...The Duggar family (from the show 19 Kids and Counting) have a steel house - apparently it was a very cost-effective option for their 7,000 sq. ft house, and is also fire-proof and obviously, terminte-proof.
