I bought some lovely grey wool suiting the other day for my October Challenge dress. I am going to use this pattern, which I believe I shared with you before, as well as my ‘new’ hat pattern. If the dress turns out well, I may use the top of the pattern (which has buttons) as a jacket pattern. Then I will make a sheath out of this fabric as well to go with the jacket. This will really give me good fall/winter mix to my wardrobe.
Though the buttons I purchased are not ‘vintage’ they do look it.They look quite lovely with the dark grey suiting. I will, of course, share the final result with you. I am going to start on it today.
I know it is a bit early to talk of Christmas (I do love it though, it is one of my favorite holidays) but I just received this album. It actually came out in 1956 so that is extra exciting for me. Here is one of the songs from the album (though sung in 1958 in the video).
It is never too early for Christmas--in my opinion. I was thinking of holiday music yesterday, and wondering to myself if I should put some on. I love the Perry Como Christmas album. Other favorites are Peggy Lee's and Herb Alpert's (not 50's, but amazing anyhow) Christmas albums. Oh what am I saying?! I love them ALL!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that my all time fav is I`m dreaming of a White Christmas by Bing Cosby......I`ve seen the movie as well :)
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas and remember as a child growing up listening to my mother`s 45 records from the fifties of Christmas songs, another fav as a child was All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.

Oh and I listened to these 45`s on my mom`s old record player she had as a teenager in the early 60`s, I miss that thing :)
Wow, that IS great find (the shoes in the boots). Thanks for solving the mystery. The boots didn't look big enough to house shoes inside, but I guess they were. The owner of the boots in the picture must have had small feet!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I can't usually find vintage shoes in my size, as my feet are too big. I love Christmas music and I will admit to already listening to my new album. It really brought me back, as usual. That was one nice thing last year was the return to albums, as listening to the Christmas music of my youth in the 70's also was 1950's Christmas albums. Such happy memories and so much joy. I have to say the Christmas season/holiday is the time I MOST wish there was a little boy or girl in our life. But, it isn't as if I could return the little darling after the holidays, just kidding. It must be a lovely time to be a mother, though. Baking and decorating cookies. Getting the tree with sleigh rides (we often went to cut our own tree when I was younger and loved it) just all the wonderful holiday memories to be made as well as their little smiling faces on Christmas day. All of you mothers and fathers are very lucky folk, though I am sure you don't need me to tell you that.
ReplyDeleteDonna--I too have felt through past Christmases (as well as other holidays like Halloween and Easter) that it would be so much more fun with a little one. I am looking forward to reliving fun holiday activities of my youth once the baby arrives and gets a bit older! As the hubby's brother wrote in our Christmas card last year: "Christmas is more fun with kids"...we took the hint!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the joy of Christmas mornings on my boys faces just fills hubby and I with warmth.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is truly for children and we treasure each one we have with them. My oldest is now 9 so Christmas is changing a little for him, as he does not react in the same manner as his younger brother anymore, but still I will miss this when they are gone.
50`s gal, you would make a great mother, and it`s never too late hon to have a baby......

i know this seems random but this post had the most chance of being read......i find previous comments on outer posts on how kids dont appreciate the 50s style very sad and inaccurate .....i dont know if u have hear of a game called "fallout"..but i its a xbox 360 game that is set in a 50s style post apocalyptic wasteland...yes its violent and full of goer at times but i don't play it for that i like the style over all ...it has a radio built into the game that plays classics from peggy lee and kay kyser and now for the pat 2 days i have had lil greens original version of "why dont you do right" and i love it i feel like i know what shes saying it connects with me and i feel im transported to the 50s in a large house sitting by the fire and its great......i just wanted you to know that not all teens think the 50s style is terrible .....and if i ever record music i would do a few modern 50s style blues songs .....im 17 ,male but i love the style so not all hope is lost xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteRudi-How wonderful. My friend, whose boyfriend is a gamer, told me about a game where the radio plays oldies. I love to hear that younger people are into it as well. I would love to hear new music inspired by oldies, if you ever make any, let us know, you might have a built in audience.
ReplyDeleteThe movie, "The Bishop's Wife" has some really great shots of those old overshoes. I've been covetting them ever since.
ReplyDeleteAren't those winter booties wonderful?I would love to have a pair.
ReplyDeleteThe buttons you purchased are so pretty & yes they do look vintage,i look forward to seeing the finished project:)
I always listened to the "oldies" station when i was a kid,i listened to it in bed at night .They played Perry Como quite often & i still enjoy listening to him now:)Thanks for always posting great songs:)
Perry Como is one of my "new" favorites. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd once Halloween is over and the air cools I get into the Christmas Spirit. I am hoping that even though this will be the first without my dad that I will be able to keep that spirit. It is also my first Christmas married to my hubby!
Lovely buttons, reminds me of blackberries. And it is absolutely not too early to talk of Christmas. I just LOVE Christmas and am longing for it all to begin. I also found another Christmas album with Perry Como this Spring, I cannot wait to hear it.
