26 May 1955 "I'm Ethel Murtz for a few more days"

Well, I wish I was having as much fun as Ethel as a landlady, getting into scrapes with Lucy, but alas. I have been rather busy since thursday and through the holiday weekend as a landlady. Part of our income comes from a house we own and rent out and I have had some tenent trouble lately. I have to clean up, advertise and get rented our little house by June, as our tenent suddenly decided she did not want to pay May's rent, nor the utilities and that she is moving out, so my homemaking, gardening, and blogging has had to take a back seat. Don't worry, though, I may be back in the saddle by this week. And I promise a good long blog tomorrow or thursday.

I just wanted to let everyone know I am still thinking about all of you and about things we have discussed. A blog is in the works but now I have to get back to my Ethel Murtz status. Oh, if only I had a Lucy to help me out!

  1. What a bummer that stinks that she did that to you. Good luck with everything. Lucy is by far the best tenant anyone could ever have, I would always be sneaking in to her closet and stealing hats and outfits.

  2. That sucks! In my time I have had some crappy landlords (like in my first place that was condemned after we moved out as there was no insulation or central heating in Vermont!) but I have prided myself on never being the bad tenant.

My father had to deal with the tenants from hell once and it was just awful. The beautiful house I grew up in was completely trashed when they left it (how did they get the flashing off the top of an A-frame?!) I just can't see myself ever being a landlady myself after that memory. I'd end up being that jerk who requires 80 background checks before even showing the house!

  6. We built a house of our dreams on 7 acres when my husband and I first married. Then he lost his job when economy went bad in the 80's. (second marrage) we rented to future buyer as we had moved to Pa. They did ten thoousand dollars damage aand skipped town. The house was only 6 months old when they did this. If I were on the cape I'd jump at this rental of yours. Oh what vintage fun we'd have! Then neither of us would be lonely for an understanding vintage friend. We could be a real Lucy and Ethel friendship! Who are you, Lucy or Ethel?

  7. Well, probably a little of both but definitely more lucy. In fact some of my friends have called me lucy for all my crazy schemes and have often said that my hubby must need to say, "Lucy, you have some sp'lainin to do" to me when he gets home! Today, I had an even more annoying turn of events concerning this property, so we shall see what happens now!
