10 September 1955 “So Sorry”

I really am sorry that my posts are so few and far between of late, but we just literally got into the main house yesterday. I am in a sea of boxes and trying to throw together dinners with what I can find in which box. I am very happy to be back and I DO promise a proper post soon, so do bear with me. This move is all encompassing.

To tide you over here are some videos.

This is Jimmy Durante from this year.

What I notice is that just starting now, 1955, music is moving more towards teens and the need to be really attractive. Obviously stars looked good but you could be a performer based on your star power or talent not some homogenious hollywood ideal of beauty.

This looks like an interesting movie, anyone seen it? I love the hopefulness mixed with foreboding warning that 50’s sci-fi always brings. I suppose so close to two world wars the future could seem wondrous and bright but filled with the fear of repeating histories mistakes. We need to adapt this fear again and look to the past.

I thought this interesting, the moonwalk pre-Michael.

So I’ll close with this: A great performer, great song, and wonderful wonderful dress. How could you not feel amazing in that outfit?

So, until I find a few minutes, lets keep our apron revolution on track.

  2. Thanks so much for thinking of us out here and putting up such great videos! My husband remembers seeing the movie, and yes, that dress is great. The song is so funny if you realy listen to the words. Jimmy, well what can I say he is wonderful. I loved him even as a child.
    Have fun putting things away....

  3. Thanks for the thoughts. Just worry about betting your house in some kind of order. I have been going back to some older posts here and there for some reading. It is fun to watch how this blog has evolved...best wishes on the unpacking. Remember to take a deep breath and be patient. Hugs!

  4. Best of luck creating your new home in that wonderful old house! Based on your description and pictures, that dear old house seems to have a soul and deserves to have someone living in it who loves and appreciates it. Dianne

  6. Hi! I've been enjoying your blog for a few weeks now and I must say I am truly delighted you take such time posting all these wonderful posts. I still need to catch up on the archives! :)

You write so eloquently everything that I believe in. I became a housewife by accident when we got married due to severe chronic pain, which I still have. I left a passion I chose to work in behind and hopefully I'll do it as a passtime one day.

I had a lightbulb moment, realizing that I'm not a horrible person for being at home. Yes, I'm annoyed that I can't do all the housework (I do what I can however on most days) and that my hard working hubby has to step in, creating some stress at home, but I've managed all our budget, enabling us to save a bunch of money and now I do all our groceries online for delivery. He loves to cook and we love to go to certain food stores together (I currently cannot drive and he takes the car in his weird irregular long hours).

Finding a community of housewife blogs has truly been a blessing. You are a smart woman who chose what makes her happy. Don't apologize for not posting every day, there are tons of ressources on this blog already! Keep up the good work and thanks a million for inspiring me.
