28 March 1954 “How Do You Like Your Eggs? Classic Celebrities Share Their Favorite Way”

dorisdayeaster Though I haven’t any information on Doris Day’s favorite use of eggs, I do have some other fun information from actors of old.
jimmyweggs First off we have Jimmy Durante. He loves his eggs Raw, thank you very much. And we love him any way. Here, in 1955, he has his own show. And here is a full episode featuring the lovely Carmen Miranda.

Now, let’s look at some more famous people and their favorite way to enjoy those over abundant fruits of Easter: Eggs.

churchilleggs Churchill enjoys a soft boiled egg.
bettyclooneyWhile Betty Clooney likes her fried just so. Betty Clooney (Rosemary’s Sister) chimes in about her choice for egg preparation. Here we see Betty and Sis Rosemary singing along with Tony Pastor in their rendition of “the Hawaiian War Chant”

Here in the mid 1950’s we are most likely to hear Miss Clooney on The Jack Parr morning show. Here she is singing the Doris Day hit, “A Guy is a Guy”

healeypoachedegg This popular Married act seem to love a good joke and though I love a poached egg, nine might be a bit over the top, even for me. It would take a lot of black coffee to wash it down. Here we see Peter Lind Hayes, and Mary Healy in the song "Get Together Weather" from Dr. Seuss' musical, The 5000 Fingers of Dr T. That is right, Dr. Suess (Theodor Seuss Geisel) It was his only ever feature film.

And here is a popular song of the day from the lovely couple, “ Rememb’ring”

mcdonaldegg The famous author, Betty McDonald has seen her share of eggs. If you are unfamiliar with the writer, she became famous for her memoir, “The Egg and I” About her life with her hubby owning a chicken farm in the 1940’s. Her book is available online and the box below this post labeled book is the link to it. So, take a moment to read it, you will find it amusing.

constchefeggsaspic The famous chef of the SS Constitution prefers poached eggs in aspic served on pate’. I have to say,. I am a sucker for both aspic and pate’ so to me this seems divine.

Now, since many of us don’t have a staff to poach and suspend our over abundance of Easter eggs in Aspic, I thought I’d share some fun recipes for this Holiday’s surplus. Let’s start with good ole’ scrambled. This recipe uses Orange Juice and some good sage advice about cooking time.

heinzdeviledeggThough this is mostly an advert for Heinz tomato catsup, I bet it would be good. There are some easy and fun homemade tomato catsup recipes around so one could go all home made or rely on their favorite store bought brand.

ovenpoachedeggsThis seems a good Recession menu. And when one has their own chickens, eggs are plentiful year round, so I try as many egg dishes as I can get my hands on.

And let’s not forget the pudding! Dessert is always better when eggs are invited.

So there are a few recipes to help you prepare for the leftover eggs you might find yourself with this coming Monday morning.

And to close today’s Star filled blog, let’s hear the closing song to Jimmy Durante’s show as we would hear it here in 1955. And “Good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are”. And, as always, Happy Homemaking.
